Discovering the bat keeper
So this was based on a video that a friend sent me of the most adorable bat in the world. And since I already like drawing mice I figured bats would also be fun to draw. I made the mistake of doing this on terrible paper though! THe sketch was primarily done with graphite and blue watercolor which buckled really badly after all the water. Lesson kids, ALWAYS use nice paper. Then I photographed it, then did a digital coloring. I wish that I had used nicer paper so I could have painted the whole thing in watercolor.

I'll be your guardian if you'll be mine, watercolor and digital
So I know someone really wonderful who recently found out their husband has cancer, I pray with all my heart that everything will be okay, and this piece is for her family. I hope many blessings for them. Watercolor, then digital tweaking. I went a little quickly with this, but I still enjoyed making it :)

Brooklyn and her Bubble Breathing Dragon watercolor with digital tweaks
I was looking at Peter DeSeve's beautiful watercolor pieces and I felt inspired to doing something more traditional looking rather than my usual digital coloring. I had so much fun with this piece. I was going to do a traditional lizard dragon, but I had stumbled upon one of those floppy eared rat holding teddy bear pictures and I knew what I had to do. This was colored with all watercolor with some digital tweaking here and there. I also timed myself so that I can figure out exactly how long it takes to do a finished piece : 7hrs.

Mod Dahling pen and micron and digital
So this was so out of my comfort zone. There were no cute little fairys or monsters, and also
because this piece was done on my new laptop that I am still in the process of trying to get to know. I also had misplaced my photoshop discs for my new laptop so I downloaded the trial version of CS6 which was very interesting. I bet I would learn to love it more the more practice I get. But I did something weird with the line work settings and that's why my lines are all dirty looking which has been driving me nuts! Also using these bright colors made my life quite adventuerous but hey that's what being an artist is all about.

The Mouse witch pen and colored pencil
Hi guys! So if you didn't know I went to the Spectrum Convention last weekend and the experience was beyond anything I could have hoped for. I left Kansas City feeling humbled after meeting such extraordinary artists that I never would have thought I would meet in my life!
So what do you draw after seeing so much mind blowing art. Originally I was going to do an insane detailed piece, but then decided I want to work on color. The colors I saw there! They were so rich and brought the drawings to life! I still love doing my line art best, but this piece was intentionally made to be more simple so thatI could experiment with color, I'm thinking watercolor with some digital tweaks here and there. I'll keep you posted on it's progress!

My old fashioned nursery rhyme
I bet you guys are so sick of all these bridal drawings, but I'm trying to remake our invitations since we had to change our venue, and I came up with this. It's sweeter and less goofy, but I originally did it with three different colored pencils than scanned it in. Usually when I finish a piece I like to play with the levels of the colors to make sure they're just right. Since the colors were really faded ( as you can see) I pushed them all the way up for fun and found that the illustration reminded me of those old vintage nursery rhyme illustrations. You know, where everything is saturated and the line quality is amazing? So I left it for fun and you can see them both :) I feel like i should turn it into a stamp or something

Pink hair jungle girl
I promise I will think of better titles later. So this I did with pen and colored digitally. I was really out of my comfort zone since I was going for a more dark atmosphere? This character that I made was more hardcore and mysterious so it was interesting trying to figure out where I was going to let this go. The gorilla is suppose to be some mysterious spirit like thing, and the boy was suppose to be like her brother. I dunno I suppose it you're the viewer you can think of your own story. But it was a good experience :)
Also playing with lighting was tricky since that is something that I definitely need to work on.

something wedding-ish
Yes yes I'm sure you all are sick of all the wedding stuff but too bad. I am planning a wedding, a maid of honor in another wedding, and trying to become some sort of artist, so call this multi-tasking ;).
This is done in watercolor and ink with some photoshop tweaks here and there. I know the guy's shoes are weird but I just can't decide what kind of shoes to make them so I figured I'd deal with them later. Basically this may be, with some more tweaking, my invitations! Woohoo! And since I can't have everyone in the land come to my wedding, i figured I'd at least share this cute little bit :). I hope you all are having a lovely spring week, more exciting things to come!

Red
Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted something worth while. I have been wedding planning, basically working as Mary Poppins to an adorable little girl, trying to get my art career off the ground, and making 300 coffee filter flowers...don't ask ;) Anyways I figured it was time to post my first 2012 drawing that I am pleased with. I drew it in bic pen first than colored it in photoshop. The most trouble i had was with the lighting, and also figuring out what to put in the upper right hand background. I thought if I made the "trees" flat the figures may pop out a bit more, but it still looks a little weird to me. But it was a very fun project to do and I hope you all enjoy it :)

Pre-teen Severus and Lily
I hope I spelled that right haha! So this was a warm up to a bigger project that I'm working on right now. I wanted to get a sort of paint-like effect with the coloring rather than my usual solid coloring. The drawing isn't too hot but, like i said it's a warm up. And I'm running out of cool ideas so Potter stuff seemed very obvious to be the answer to my artist's block.
